Background
War Wolves are a species created in a post apocalyptic world by a government run program in charge of enineering a species capable of working on the surface, which has been devastated by nuclear warfare. It is dark, desolate and hostile. Different groups inhabit underground bunkers around the world as the surface is not inhabitable in its current state. Trips to the surface are not encouraged. Hostile groups often rely on force in order to obtain weopons, gear, food and water and even more hospitable bunkers.
To combat this threat and to make surface trips safer, the government sactioned a new species, One that would be genetically developed to safely navigate the surface and to help alert their handlers to oncoming threats and defend when necessary. This group of scientists used the DNA from wolves, enhanced with other canine species as well as other types of animals, both from the past and present to create what is now known as Was Wolves.
DNA Splicing...
All was wolves share certain key features. Although the surface contains high levels of radiation, the mutated features seen In War Wolves are not due to this radiation, but rather, from the process of DNA splicing and messing with their genetics as a species. In order to get the unnatural traits, such as the echolocation and enhanced sense of smell, they had to change their DNA and splice it. The lack of eyes was an intentional modification. Since they had echolocation, they had no need for eyes. It is also for the fact that there is radiation on the surface as well as dust and debre in the air that is detrimental to eyes. It was a some solution to a tricky situation.
The lack of nose was a mutation that wasn't aimed for but wasn't problematic so they didn't try and fix it and potentially cause more problems. The same goes for the unnatural markings and unusual tail. Every now and then they get one of these but it is so rare that it's a non issue. These war wolves have a good and bad feature; they have an amazing sense of smell, higher than the natural wolves and are fiercely loyal to their handler, but they are sterile and unfortunately cannot breed.
Classes...
There are 3 classes of War wolves; Original, Second Generation and Unnatural.
Original Was Wolves are genetically enineered and "born" in a laboratory. They do not have parents. Original War Wolves are fertile and are aloud to breed, for a small fee.
Second generation Was Wolves are born from a pairing between Original War Wolves. They inherit their parents genetics and cost patterns. Although second generation War Wolves are fertile, due to the genetic makeup and possibility for unwanted mutation, these War Wolves are not sanctioned for breeding.
Unnatural War Wolves are mutated beyond the norm. They have unnatural coat colors and patterns, some are identifiable from past species, others are so unusual that it is unknown how They were obtained. These war wolves all share One common feature, found only on these unnatural wolves; a long, tapered tail. It is unknown why is from where they get this tail, but it is clearly a feature connected to their unusual coat. Another trait of these unnatural War Wolves is that they are sterile and cannot breed. Due to this fact, these War Wolves are not sold, instead they are adopted out to suitable owners. Unnatural War Wolves, although not purposefully bred, are fiercely loyal to their handlers, more so than the common Was Wolf. They also have an increased sense of smell, making them an invaluable asset on the surface, but due to their inability to breed, they are not as popular as natural War Wolves.

Characteristics
No Eyes, No NoseThey are not born with eyes as the earth is dark and radiation storms are ever present, on the surface, eyes are a vulnerability. Instead, they use a form of echolocation which helps them navigate the crumbling and decaying earth.
War wolves are born without noses as well, though it is unknown why. |
Gas MaskWar Wolves are not born with gas masks. They are trained rigorously shortly after birth and by 6 months of age, they are fitted with a mask for use on the surface. Each mask has a number tag on the neck strap and the eye glass is tinted for each wolf in consideration of their markings.
The Number on the tag is the number associated with their creation, the color of the tag identifies the wolf as either Original or Second Generation. |
StatusThere are two classes of war wolves: Originals and Second Generation. War wolves are identified by the color of the tag on their gas masks. Original war wolves have a silver tag, where Second Generation war wolves have a bronze tag. Gold is heavily valued asset and is not used on war wolves in order to keep hostiles from attempting to attack and steal their tags.

Markings
There are two classes of markings: Natural and Unnatural.
Natural MarkingsNatural markings are the most common. Their coat colors and patterns can be attributed to the predominant DNA and this is noted for each wolf on the registry. War wolves with natural markings are breedable, although only certain ones are aloud to breed (permission is required). War wolves with natural markings may be original, or may be second generation.
|
Unnatural MarkingsUnnatural markings are less common (approximately 10%) and these animals are sterile and cannot be bred. They are the result of mutation associated with the genetic engineering used to create the animals. All war wolves with unnatural markings are originals and do not have parents. Unnatural markings will not be found in a litter.

Tails
StandardThe first, and most common type, is a standard, natural tail, which is compared to a regular 20th century grey wolf tail.
|
TailessThe second type, which is also common, is tailess. There is no bones to produce even a stump of a tail. This can be compared to certain cattle dogs.
|
TaperingThe third, and less common type, is a long, muscular tail, tapering to a rounded point with a furry end. This type of tail is unique to originals with unnatural markings. It is thought that it is another mutation associated with these unnatural markings.

Breeding
Original war wolves are first generation, created by the military using DNA from a variety of pre and post apocalyptic animals in America. Original war wolves with natural markings can be bred if sanctioned by the head scientist. There will be certain qualifying aspects required before a breeding can be sanctioned and will be approved on a case by case basis. Original war wolves with unnatural markings are sterile and cannot be bred.
Second generations war wolves are not sanctioned for breeding.
Litters will never have more than 3 pups.
Second generations war wolves are not sanctioned for breeding.
Litters will never have more than 3 pups.
Puppies
There are three different puppy lines, the lines are alternated between bidding rounds. Every puppy has a dog tag with its number for identification purposes. These tags are later removed once the puppy has received its mask.
War Wolf RegisteryEach War Wolf is registered on the registry. Name, Gender, Predominant DNA, Status, Coat Type, Creation Date and Owner are all recorded for reference, as well as photos of each as a puppy and adult.

Available War WolvesBelow are war wolves available for auction. Each War wolf comes with two art pieces; an adult image with the gas mask, and a puppy image without the gas mask. Due to the rarity of Originals with unnatural markings and the inability to breed these wolves, they will not be auctioned, but rather, they will be adopted out to suitable owners.
